I loved working with Laura! I learned so much about myself during the 6 months I mentored with her. Laura taught me how to be more self aware, and this has shed light into many areas of my life, both personal and professional. I am more intentional in my behavior. I now recognize that intent… Read more “Betsy Eberg, CEP”

I had the opportunity to work with Laura following a job elimination. Laura led me through a Strengths Finder tool , which produced an updated resume that highlights my strengths rather than a resume that lists job duties and tasks accomplished. Laura also facilitated personal goal setting. I had spent much of professional life working… Read more “Tisha Schmidt, MBA”

“We engaged Laura because we recognized most of the team we considered our core leaders were not leading at all. In fact, they were so caught up in the details of day-to-day management activities, they weren’t growing themselves or developing their direct reports. We need leaders at every level of the organization if we are… Read more “David Rosier, General Manager Toyota North America Toyota Motor Manufacturing, West Virginia”

The word that exemplifies my work with Laura is “intentional”. So many things in my life are on auto pilot, or I am multi-tasking so much I start “flying by the seat of my pants”. While I can and do get things done in both of these modes, it isn’t the best or most efficient… Read more “Kara Rogers”

I Had a Dream. This is How it Unfolded…
PodcastIn 2013, Host, Laura Prisc, participated in a workshop series designed to help her create or find her dream job. Part of the process was imagining and articulating what her “dream life” looked like. Eavesdrop on her today, as she takes a look back and what she imagined for her life and work at that time, and how it has unfolded.
Perhaps it will spark your thinking and desire to engage in a similar exercise. After all, wouldn’t you rather be the active driver and voice in deciding what kind of life you want to live, rather than taking on the roles other people think would be best for you (and often in response to filling gaps and needs they have…)?

She’ll Give You “Permission to be Human” with MaryBeth Hyland, Founder & Chief Visionary – SparkVision
PodcastIt’s always fun to encounter a kindred spirit – someone on a very similar journey, whose thinking and beliefs are aligned with your own… and that’s exactly what host, Laura Prisc, experienced during this week’s episode, getting to know MaryBeth Hyland.
MaryBeth is striving to bring the essence of what it means to be human back into our lives and work. Her desire was borne of her personal experience, working in a company that looked like it had it all together from the outside, but turned out to be a dysfunctional culture once she was immersed in it.
“I was experiencing too much internal discord to stay,” she explains, going further to say that the awareness that one is out of alignment with others, or an organization is sometimes sudden and sometimes creeps up on you. Either way, it’s uncomfortable and unhealthy to stay.
Having experienced something similar in more than one organization and having to work her way through releasing the guilt and shame associated with the perception of “quitting,” she’s taken some bold and decisive steps to take back her life and work, and to share what she’s learned with the people and organizations she now works with.
Listen in as she shares her story, including how she chose to extract herself from a women’s organization in which she was the 5th generation in her family to be involved. Breaking the cycle, as they say, is not easy even when it’s clear it’s the right decision. It comes with a lot of emotion, baggage, legacy, and expectation.
Take some time to contemplate your core values and discern whether they are truly yours, or you’ve merely absorbed / inherited them from others. Ask yourself, “How did I get here?” and “Is this where I want to be in my life?”
Perhaps you’ll discover it’s time for a change in your life, or you’ll rest assured that you are in fact living a life you desire. Either way, it’s a thought-provoking and engaging conversation.
